Profile

I was proud to be one of the original pub jurors, and spent ...oohh.... 14 years or so endlessly "researching" pubs in Brighton. The march of time has done nothing to dim my ardour for top pubs, and recently moving to Hertfordshire has given me new drinking worlds to explore. At around the age of 30 I switched from drinking lager to real ale, but I've never forgotten that "Beer" is only 1 of 6 things to rate in a pub.

Interests

Pubs of course, history, swimming, publishing, hypnotherapy.

The Red Lion
This is really a large hotel bar, but it doubles up as a kind-of pub. Plenty of high-quality Youngs beers are available, and some food. The atmosphere is businesslike rather than welcoming. But there isn't a lot of choice in Radlett, and the Red Lion is right opposite the station, so worth knowing about if you've just arrived or have some time to kill before your train to freedom departs.
The Cat & Fiddle
The best pub in Radlett, although a bit on the pricey side. The food menu can astonishing, with up to 10 tasty options to choose from. Beer is good quality Adnams, GKIPA and Abbots. There is ample room out the back for car parking.
The Woodman
Once again this is CAMRA's Pub Of The Year for South Hertfordshire. Considering its remote location, the Woodman is astonishingly busy and always popular. The atmosphere is great and the quality of the real ales hard to beat. Basic food is provided at lunchtimes. Well worth seeking out.
