Juror Portraits
In the beginning there were only seven pub jurors, all in the Brighton area of the UK, they spanned a twenty year age range and included a CAMRA member, a cider drinker, a rocker and one woman! This eclectic mix generates a remarkably balanced scoring system.
With the launch of this site we hope that they will eventually be joined by thousands more jurors all around the world.
So without further ado, here is a quick run down of the current Brighton pub jurors:
Mr. H
The most senior juror in terms of number of pubs visited as well as in age, Mr. H enjoys a quality pint of bitter in a quality establishment. No plastic plants for this fellow! His shock favourite pub is Grand Central, closely followed by the Battle of Trafalgar, Prestonville and Basketmakers.
Mr. A
With favourites of the Sidewinder, Shakespear's Head and the Battle of Trafalgar, Mr. A prizes objectivity over personal favourites in his marking. He'll drink lager, bitter, stout or cocktails - basically anything in a glass. His preferred place of drinking has to have a bit of life.
Mr. B
A father of two, Mr. B has had his drinking sessions curtailed by nappy changing, but in his day his preferred pub valued atmosphere and entertainment over beer. He's a lager drinking, football watching, gambling executive with a taste for a hot curry. Personal favourites: the Basketmakers, Regency and the Cricketers.
Mr. E
An occasionally dangerous professional cider-drinker, Mr. E still feels like a student and favours the younger atmosphere for his alcohol consumption. Favourite hang-outs are the Hop Poles, Ali-Cats and Sidewinder. On weeknights Mr. E likes to frequent pub quizzes and is expert at coming 3rd.
Mr. T
Another young father, but this time of two, Mr. T is the only juror not resident in Brighton, hiding out in Plumpton and making regular forays into the big city purely for the sake of research. An ardent Seagulls fan, Mr. T also likes a good pint of bitter to wash away his sorrows and favours modern pubs of quality like the Hop Poles, Basketmakers and Open House.
Miss C
Currently the only woman on the team, Miss C has her work cut out objectively representing the views of the entire fairer sex. She is the only juror who rates Drink as low as being the 4th most important facet of a pub. Her premier haunts are the Shakespear's Head, Pub With No Name and the Park Crescent.
Mr. M
Band member and full time artist and rocker, Mr. M knows what he wants from a pub and it is Atmosphere, Beer and Entertainment in that order. It tells you a lot about him that his top drinking dens are the Hobgoblin, Ali-Cats and the Free Butt. Lager and loud music make him a happy man.
